The fastest circumnavigation swim around Lord Howe Island by a male swimmer was achieved by Lynton Mortensen (Australia) in 12 hours 29 minutes on 14 February 2021.


Mortensen was also the first-ever person to swim around this Australian island in the Tasman Sea, about 590 km (320 mi) off Port Macquarie, New South Wales. His swim covered a distance of about 30 km (18.6 mi).

To date, the fastest – and also first – female to swim around Lord Howe Island is Lauren Tischendorf (Australia), who completed the swim in 13 hr 50 min 58 sec on 21 April 2021.

Nicknamed the "Sea Bull", Mortensen was the 12th person to complete Oceans Seven open-water swimming challenge – the crossing of seven difficult open-sea straits/channels around the world. He also completed the Oceans Seven in the quickest time: 2 years 60 days between 15 September 2016 (Strait of Gibraltar) and 14 November 2018 (Cook Strait).
