Mahmoud Mohamed Taha (Sudan) was 76 when he was arrested on 5 January 1986, charged with subversion. His trial lasted two days, and he was convicted and sentenced to death on the 8 January. On the 17 January his mandatory appeal upheld the earlier conviction, and Taha was publicly hanged at Kober Prison in Khartoum North on the 18 January 1986.
