Most Oscar nominations for a non-English film

On 23 January 2025, Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language film Emilia Pérez (France, 2024) secured 13 nominations ahead of the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Audiard) and Best Actress (Karla Sofía Gascón, the first openly transgender actor to be nominated for an Oscar).

Emilia Pérez picked up three more nominations than both Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (aka Wo Hu Cang Long; China/USA, 2000) and Roma (Mexico/USA, 2018). Both films landed 10 nominations ahead of the 73rd and 91st Academy Awards, respectively.
