Princess Stéphanie of Monaco, the younger daughter of Prince Rainier III (1923-2005) and Princess Grace (aka actress Grace Kelly, 1929-82), is the only royal in the world to have had pop music hits throughout Europe. Her album Rendez-Vous under the record label Success, made it into the German Top 10 and the Dutch Top 40, as well as placing high on the Italian and French charts.
Princess Stéphanie has enjoyed seven hit singles and two hit albums during her career as a musician, including No.1 singles in France (“Ouragan”) and Sweden (“One Love to Give”) in 1986 and an album (Besoin) that peaked at No.6 in both countries in the same year. Princess Stéphanie, who is sixth in line to the Monegasque throne, was also the uncredited ‘Mystery Girl’ on Michael Jackson’s (USA, 1958-2009) worldwide hit from 1992, “In the Closet”, and she most recently charted in 2006 with "L'Or de Nos Vies", a single released by the 14-strong Fight AIDS collective that reached the French Top 5.
Hit albums: Besoin (1986); Stéphanie (1991). Hit singles: “Ouragan” (1986), “Irresistible” (the English language version of “Ouragan”, 1986), “Flash” (1986), “One Love to Give” (the English language version of “Flash”, 1986); "Fleur du Mal (à Paul)" (1987), “Live Your Life” (1987; all six aforementioned singles from the album Besoin); “Winds of Chance” (1991); “In the Closet” (under the alias ‘Mystery Girl’ on Michael Jackson’s Dangerous album cut); "L'Or de Nos Vies" (as a member of the Fight AIDS collective, 2006).
Stéphanie co-wrote the title track and “Live Your Life” from her debut album and co-wrote every track on her 1991 follow-up.
In a 2009 survey by InfoDisc (see link), Stéphanie was named the 378th best-selling artist in France, her most successful territory, with estimated total sales (albums and singles) of 1,711,100. She had sold an estimated 1,529,000 singles up to 2009, with "Ouragan" (literal translation: "Hurricane") France's 83rd best-seller of all time with 1,030,000 copies sold.
