England’s Stuart Broad batted for 103 minutes in the 3rd Test against New Zealand on 26 March 2013 as the visitors salvaged an unlikely draw at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand. Broad faced 62 balls before getting off the mark, and his heroics enabled England to draw the three-match series 0–0.
The previous record was held by New Zealand’s Geoff Allott, who batted for 101 minutes (77 deliveries faced) against South Africa at the same venue on 2 March 1999.
Broad and Matt Prior (110 not out) came together at 237 for 7 and notched up their half-century partnership in 134 balls with Broad still on 0 not out.
For only the third time in Test cricket, a team went into the final day of a match with four wickets down (90 for 4) and avoided defeat. England in South Africa (1995) and South Africa in Australia (2012) were the only other instances.
