When
The Polar Express (USA 2004), the first film to entirely use the Performance Capture technique, whereby the physical movements of the actors are digitally recorded and then translated into a computer animation, was released on 10 November 2004 with a running time of 1 hr 33 min. The film, based on Chris Van Allsburg's (USA) children's book, has Tom Hanks (USA) playing five of the characters and was made at a cost of US$165 million (£88.85 million).
