Growing up, Mary's dream has always been to work in entertainment/show business. She impressed everyone with her singing during an audition for K-Star Country 99.7 FM, so much so that on 21 April 1951, she was then employed at the age of 12 for a 15-minute singing segment. Just four months later, she was promoted to Radio Presenter/DJ.

Mary McCoy was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2010 and recognized by the Country Music Association of Texas for her work as a DJ. In 2024, she was also inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.

To this day, Mary's Classic Show continues Monday-Friday from 10am-12pm, along with a prerecord Sunday Classic show which airs on Sunday mornings.
