The Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong, China, which opened to the public in May 1997, has a main span of 1,377 m 4,518 ft, making it the longest suspension-bridge span for combined road/railway traffic.
The Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge – which was built across the Bosporus Strait to the north of Istanbul, Turkey, in 2016 – was designed as a combined road and rail bridge, and with a main span of 1,408 m (4,619 ft) it should hold this record. However, as of October 2021, the rail lines intended to cross the bridge have not been installed. In fact, there are no major rail connections within about 20 kilometers of the bridge, suggesting that several years of construction will be needed before the planned high-speed rail crossing is completed.
