The longest birthday card exchange is 80 years, between Patricia Shardelow Jarrett DeReamer Surgener and Mary Wheaton Kroger (both USA), as of 12 November 2024.
The very first exchange was 12 April 1944, when Patricia and Mary were only 14 years old.
The friends have been exchanging the same birthday card every year since. Both remained close throughout high school and even though they have not lived in the same city since graduating high school, their friendship carried on. Despite moving away for college, getting married, having children- to eventually having grandchildren, the birthday card exchange still occurred annually and continues on to this very day.
The duo initially held this Guinness World Records title with 60 years in 2004, and today are celebrating a feat of over 80 years!
