England’s 498 for 4 against the Netherlands at VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen, Netherlands, on 17 June 2022 smashed not only their own men’s One-Day International (ODI) best of 481 for 6 and New Zealand’s women’s – and overall – ODI record of 491 for 4, but also the List A (limited-overs international and domestic matches) top score of 496 for 4, set by Surrey against Gloucestershire in a Friends Provident Trophy South Conference match at The Oval, London, UK, on 29 April 2007.
Jos Buttler’s 162 not out (70 balls), Dawid Malan’s 125 (109 balls), Phil Salt’s 122 (93 balls) and Liam Livingstone’s 66 not out (22 balls) propelled England to their huge 50-over total. The 9.96-runs-per-over onslaught featured 26 sixes (beating England’s own record of 25 vs. Afghanistan at the 2019 World Cup) and an unrivalled 300 runs in boundaries (36 fours and 26 sixes).
