The earliest commercially released golfing video game was the aptly named Golf, which was released in 1980 for the Atari 2600. However, although this was the first golf game, it was not the first to let the player swing a club. A year earlier in 1979, Miniature Golf (also for the Atari 2600) became the earliest ever golf-themed game to receive a commercial release and the earliest miniature golf game to be released.
