The fastest long course 50 m butterfly by a male swimmer is 22.27 seconds, by Andriy Govorov (Ukraine) at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, Italy, on 1 July 2018.
Govorov beat Rafael Muñoz’s record of 22.43 seconds, which was achieved in 2009 during the so-called “supersuit era”, when swimmers wearing (now banned) hi-tech non-textile swimsuits set a host of long-standing records.
