The fastest 50 m by a human wheelbarrow is 10.88 sec and was achieved by Jacob Mascaro and Johnnie Cherneskie (both USA), in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA, on 19 September 2020.

Jacob and Johnnie first ran a wheelbarrow race while at an Olympics style outing at their medical school, West Virginia University (GO MOUNTAINEERS!). On that day the pair noticed they had a skill for wheelbarrow racing and decided to push themselves to record-breaking levels. They trained around once a week for two years in order to reach the pinnacle of the sport. The training, which consisted of 10 metre sprints as well as longer distance runs, was a welcome break from their medical studies. As well as pushing them to new physical heights, preparing for the record also helped cement their friendship which the two are very grateful for.
