Nintendo’s R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy) was the first commercially available robot designed to give players an extra hand with videogames. It came packaged with Gyromite (Nintendo, 1985), a physics-based puzzler wherein R.O.B. and the player teamed up to help Professor Hector navigate his lab while avoiding evil lizards called Smicks. R.O.B. has since made cameos in other Nintendo games including Mario Kart DS (2005) and WarioWare: Smooth Moves (2007).
