Selling more than a million copies worldwide by June 2011, Lumines is the PlayStation Portable’s most financially successful puzzle game. Upon its release, Lumines earned accolades from critics and fans alike for infusing music and colour elements to the standard block-puzzle formula.
Tetsuya Mizuguchi – the creator of Lumines – has a long history of employing music as a game mechanic, starting with Rez (United Game Artists, 2001) and then continuing with Every Extend Extra (Q Entertainment, 2006) and his subsequent title, Child of Eden (Q Entertainment, 2011).
