On 28 October 2010, the Royal Norwegian Navy received its second corvette of the Skjold (Shield) class, P-962 KNM Skudd, which is the fastest class of operational warship. It is a large, stealthy missile ship and, though formerly classed as a Missile Torpedo Boat (MTB), the Navy officially re-classed them in 2009, and they are now regarded as coastal corvettes, since their seaworthiness is similar to that of a corvette. Built on the air cushion catamaran concept, they can reach speeds in excess of 60 knots (110 kilometres per hour).
