Most marriages (polygamy)

Warren Steed Jeffs, one-time president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), had between 50 and 80 wives when arrested in Nevada, USA, in August 2006 for sexual misconduct. The actual number of wives is unknown, as Jeffs had spent 15 months on the run ­ and a spell on the FBI¹s Top 10 Most Wanted list ­ before his arrest. The 10,000-strong FLDS believes in 'plural marriage' or polygamy, which is illegal in the USA.
