According to the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA), the Arctic Ocean has an average depth of 1,205 metres (3,953 feet). It has an area of 15,558,000 km² (6,006,977 square miles), making it also the smallest of the major oceans.
The Arctic Ocean's deepest point is the Molloy Deep west of the Svalbard Islands (Norway) at 5,550 m (18,209 ft) below the surface.
