Last Dodo bird

- Who
- Unknown
- When
- 1681
The last known specimen of the Mauritian dodo (Raphus cucullatus, formerly Didus ineptus) died in 1681. The single remaining closest relative - a Rodrigues solitaire from the nearby Rodrigues Island - died in 1790. The dodo's downfall was brought about by its fearlessness and flightlessness, as it would inquisitivly approach strangers (and predators).
