Kepler-70b, which orbits its host star, Kepler-70, at a distance of just 0.006 AU, has an estimated surface temperature of around 6,930 C.
Discovered by NASA’s Kepler spacecraft in 2011, Kepler-70b is (as of 2016) also the closest known extrasolar planet to its host star. Its mass is around 0.44 Earth masses. It is possible that Kepler-70b is the rocky core remains of a gas giant that encountered the gaseous envelope around its star when it was undergoing its red giant phase, during which its own atmosphere was blown away.
