The first video game licensed to include the names and likenesses of a real-life rock band was Journey Escape (Data Age, 1982), which was released for the Atari 2600 in 1982. The gameplay takes the form of a vertical scrolling ''avoid-em up'' and tasks the player with guiding the band to their ''Escape Vehicle'' (cleverly named after the band''s 1981 album), while avoiding groupies, photographers and rival promoters.
