America’s Global Positioning System is a coordinated constellation of at least 24 satellites in orbit around the Earth. They provide, via radio signals, precise 3D navigation data coverage for the whole world enabling users to quickly pinpoint their location using a receiver. The GPS constellation is operated by the US Air Force 50th Space Wing and was only available for military use until 1996.
