According to the CIA World Factbook, the country with the most broadcasting TV stations is Russia, which had a staggering 7,306 stations at its peak in 1998. In second place ­ yet with less than half of Russia's figure ­ is China, with 3,240 stations (1997 figure), and third is the USA, with 2,218 (2006 figure). Several nations, particularly those in more remote island groups in the South Pacific, have no broadcasters.
