Largest group of otaku

Otaku is a Japanese honorific word meaning "home", but also a slang term for “geek” or “nerd”, and particularly one obsessed, often secretly, with manga and anime. A study of such consumers in 2005 revealed that the manga otaku in Japan is the largest of all such otaku groups, numbering around 350,000 and spending upwards of 83 billion Yen ($729 million; £409 million) each year on manga-related products. Other groupings include videogame, celebrity and computer otaku.
