The High Coast in Västernorrland, Sweden, has a shingle beach some 260 m (853 ft) above sea level. It was elevated to this altitude by the land rising due to the removal of the vast weight of the overlying ice sheets that occurred during the last Ice Age. The region is still rising, at a rate of around 1 cm (0.39 in) per year, and will continue rising for around another 10,000 years.
