The largest living species of lemur is the indri (Indri indri), which has a total length of 64-72 cm (25-28 in), of which its head and body account for 60-67 cm (23-26 in), as it is virtually tailless - the only such lemur alive today. It weighs 6-7.5 kg (13-16.5 lb), is tree-dwelling, predominantly diurnal, and inhabits the central-eastern and north-eastern rainforests of Madagascar, from sea-level to around 1,500 m (4,921 ft).
