The largest caecilian is Thompson's caecilian (Caecilia thompsoni) of Colombia, which measures approximately 1.5 m (5 ft) long and 3 cm (1.8 in) wide. Caecilians are limbless and rarely seen (thus often mistaken for earthworms) and have large mouths with which to seize their prey.
