Christchurch-based Crusaders defeated the Blues 21–7 on 18 June 2022 to claim the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific title – their 11th Super Rugby title. The SANZAAR-regulated tournament reverted to an international 12-team format in 2022 with sides from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa and Tonga, following two years of COVID-enforced domestic competitions and the withdrawal of Japanese, South African and Argentinian teams from Super Rugby.
