The longest non-drug-related suspension given out by the National Basketball Association to an individual player is 72 days to Ron Artest (USA) of the Indiana Pacers following their game at the Detroit Pistons on 19 November 2004. Artest was banned from playing the rest of the 2004/05 season after sparking a melee in which Pacers players brawled with Pistons fans. Nine players from the two teams were banned for a total of 143 days following the incident.
