The largest mechanical shovel built was the Marion 6360 stripping shovel, which had an operating weight of around 13,000 tonnes (28.6 million lb) and a bucket capacity of 137 m³ (4,860 ft³). It had a reach of 72 m (236 ft) and a dumping height of 46.6 m (153 ft), and was in service at an open-cast coal mine near Percy, Illinois, USA, until 1991, when it was taken out of service after a fire.
