A female water buffalo (Bubalus bubaluss arnee) owned by Mr. Anant Shankar Damale of Tal-Khed, Maharashtra, India was born in November 1967. On average water buffalo live to a maximum age of 25 years in the wild and 29 years in captivity.
At present she has lost all her teeth but still gives milk and is currently pregnant. It is hoped she will live for at least a further 5-8 years.
Letter received from owners, confirming that she is still alive as of 12 October 2004.
