The fastest crossing of the Strait of Öresund by a male swimmer is 6 hours 6 minutes 25 seconds by James Karn (USA) on 29 June 2023. He swam the 20-km (12.4-mi) route between Bellevue Strand in Denmark to Barsebäck, Sweden, as ratified by SwimÖresund.
Karn surpassed the previous fastest solo swim crossing of the Strait of Öresund of 7 hours 4 minutes 20 seconds set by Ireland's John Charles Curley on 17 June 2023.
The first ever person to traverse the strait between these points, one of the widest stretches of the channel, was 17-year-old Edith Jensen of Denmark who completed the swim in 12 hours 45 minutes on 31 July 1927.
