According to estimates published by Forbes on 9 February 2022, the highest-earning rap artist in 2021 was Jay-Z, aka Shawn Carter (USA), who reportedly earned $340 million (£252 million) in that calendar year.
This placed him third on the "Highest-Paid Entertainers" list that was topped by New Zealand director Peter Jackson with estimated earnings of $580 m (£429.9 m).
In March 2021, Jay-Z sold his streaming platform Tidal to Square, the financial payments system co-founded by Twitter's Jack Dorsey. Also, 50% of his champagne brand, Armand de Brignac, was bought by luxury-goods company Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
