Wildcard Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France) won the first set of his first round match against American sixth seed Andy Roddick 7–6 (20–18) at the Australian Open on 15 January 2007. At 38 points, it remains the longest-ever tie-break in a men’s Grand Slam singles match.

It was subsequently equalled by Lesia Tsurenko and Ana Bogdan’s final-set marathon – also 7–6 (20–18) – in the Wimbledon women’s singles on 7 July 2023, after all four Slams had adopted a deciding-set 10-point breaker to rule out “timeless” matches.

Both 38-point tie-breaks were aced by Anna Blinkova (Russia) and Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) in the second round of the Australian Open on 18 January 2024. Their gruelling final-set tie-break lasted for 42 points and was eventually won 22–20 by Blinkova.
