Bas de Leede (Netherlands) leaked 115 runs in 10 overs – the most runs conceded by a bowler in a Cricket World Cup match or any One-Day International (ODI) – against Australia at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India, on 25 October 2023. The fast-medium all-rounder was clattered for six sixes and 13 fours amid an onslaught from David Warner (104), Marnus Labuschagne (62) and Glenn Maxwell (106), whose 40-ball hundred was the fastest three-figure score at the Cricket World Cup since its inception in 1975.
De Leede went for 26 runs in his first two-over spell (overs 21 and 23), 39 runs in a second spell of five overs (33, 35, 37, 39 and 41) and finished off by conceding 50 runs in his last three overs (45, 47 and 49), including the penultimate over of the innings that cost 28 runs (two sixes, two fours, seven no balls and a single).
On 15 September 2023 in Centurion, during the fourth ODI of Australia’s pre-World Cup tour of South Africa, visiting leg-spinner Adam Zampa was carted for 113 runs in 10 overs (without taking a wicket) to match exactly the unwanted record of Australia’s fast-medium-pacer Mick Lewis (10-0-113-0) against South Africa in Johannesburg on 12 March 2006. De Leede went two runs better (or worse!) than both of them in Delhi.
