The greatest distance on a penny farthing in one hour (female) is 26.199 km (16.279 mi), achieved by Melissa Eisdell (UK) at the Herne Hill Velodrome in London, UK, on 11 October 2024.
This surpassed the previous record of 23.41 km (14.54 mi), achieved by Lizanne Wilmot on 21 July 2023. Eisdell broke the record as part of the Penny Farthing Extravaganza Weekend over the course of which 12 records were set. GWR was ably assisted by professional timekeepers Daniel Tzabar, Robert Ruszkowski and Lieze Thielemans.
Horsewoman Eisdell also claimed the paced team one-hour record (based on guidelines from races that took place in the 1880s) along with riders Julie Woodward (UK) and Evi Dumon (Belgium), cycling a distance of 24.785 km (15.400 mi) on 12 October. It was the first time that an all-female team had ever attempted this record as when these races were originally taking place in the late 1800s (the penny farthing was invented in 1871), women were not permitted to take part.
