The UFO landing site built for the climax of Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind (US 1977) had a height of 27 m (90 ft), a length of 137 m (450 ft) and a breadth of 76 m (250 ft). Constructed inside a 283,000 m³ (10 million ft³) dirigible hangar at Mobile, Alabama, USA, the building had six times the capacity of the largest sound stage in Hollywood.
The structure included 6.4km (4 miles) of scaffolding, 1,570 m² (16,900 ft³ )of fibreglass, 2,740 m² (29,500 ft²) of nylon canopy and 'enough concrete to make a full-scale replica of the Washington monument'.
