The chlorophyll content of the algae Kirin Chlorella M-207A7 (Chlorella vulgaris) measured on a dry weight basis  is 6.7% and was discovered by Dr. Kouichi Nakanishi of Kirin Brewery Company Ltd, Takasaki-shi, Gunma, Japan in January 2000.  For most plants, the chlorophyll content is between 0.6-1.2% on a dry weight basis. Spinach, considered as one of the darkest green vegetables is still only 0.9%.  Chlorophyll is the green coloring matter of plants that traps the energy of sunlight in order to process carbon dioxide.
To measure on a dry weight basis means that the plant is dried and all liquids are removed in order to give a more genuine chlorophyll measurement.  Dr Nakanshi has been developing higher levels of chlorophyll in chlorella since 1997 and isolated the original mother strain of Kirin Chlorella in a lake in Gunma.  Chlorella is the number one selling health food supplement in Japan.  More than 10 million people worldwide take chlorella every day.  It has been more researched than  any other food in history and has the ability to quadruple in quantity every 20 hours which no other plant or substance can do.  It is used effectively as a topical treatment for damaged tissue and in helping reverse chronic diseases of many kinds including cancer.
