At the International Cricket Inclusion Series between Australia and New Zealand in Brisbane, Australia, on 14 June 2022, batter Steffan Nero (Australia) smashed 309 not out off just 140 balls, including 49 fours and a six, in a 40-over-per-side One-Day International (ODI). It was the prolific opener’s third consecutive century of the bilateral series, after scores of 113 (46 balls) and 101 not out (47 balls) in T20 matches earlier in the week. Nero’s was the first-ever triple century in blind cricket and improved upon Masood Jan’s 262 for Pakistan against South Africa at the Blind Cricket World Cup in New Delhi, India, on 19 November 1998.
Nero was born with congenital nystagmus, causing involuntary eye movement. As his eyesight began to deteriorate, he developed his sporting prowess in football, futsal and goalball in addition to cricket. Nero represented Australia at the 2017 Blind T20 World Cup. In Brisbane, Australia rattled up 542 for 2 against New Zealand and ran out comfortable winners by 270 runs.
