The O. Henry Museum in Austin, Texas, USA, has held its annual Pun-Off World Championships for 45 years, since 1978, with an online iteration in 2020 owing to COVID-19 restrictions. It comprises “PunSlingers” (head-to-head improvised punning) and “Punniest of Show” (a 90-second prepared performance). The contest is named after the pen name of wordplay-loving US writer William Sydney Porter.
The 46th annual Pun-Off World Championships are scheduled to take place on 13 May 2023.
