The fastest completion of Amok Runner (2022, Gamedeus) is 25 minutes and 32 seconds, achieved by “Weegee” (USA) on 10 January 2023.
Weegee took first place in an unexpected $10,000 speedrunning challenge set by hugely popular YouTuber and Twitch streamer Charles White Jr., aka MoistCr1TiKaL (USA), for the little-known indie adventure. MoistCr1TiKaL gave competitors just two weeks to submit their best times, sparking speedrun interest in Amok Runner for the first time.
Weegee put an eye-watering 192 hours into Amok Runner over the course of the two weeks in a bid to win the $6000 first prize, MoistCr1TiKaL revealed in his winners video published to YouTube. Weegee’s winning run, verified by Speedrun.com, was submitted just two hours before the competition deadline, and beat second place zach777 (USA) by just one second. “I wanna say it was a lot of fun but I may also need therapy after what that game did to me,” Weegee joked in a tweet.
Weegee is no stranger to speedruns - he also holds the world record for the fastest 120 star completion of Super Mario 64 (1996, Nintendo). MoistCr1TiKaL declared the competition a success, and announced plans to issue a new speedrun bounty for similarly unknown games each month.
