The fastest-recorded throw by an MLB infielder is 99.8 mph (160.6 km/h), achieved by Elly De La Cruz (Dominican Republic) of the Cincinnati Reds (USA) on 20 July 2023.

The Reds were playing against the San Francisco Giants (USA) when Statcast named De La Cruz's throw the fastest-tracked assist by an infielder. He surpassed his own record of 97.9 mph (157.6 km/h), which he set on 16 July 2023.

Statcast is a tracking technology that the MLB use to measure different elements of each game, from the sprint speed of a player to the launch angle of a ball. The technology was first introduced in 2014, and by 2015, all 30 stadiums used by MLB teams had Statcast installed.
