The world record for most heads on one sunflower plant is 837. The sunflower plant was grown by Melvin Hemker (USA) on his farm in St. Charles, Michigan, USA and the heads were counted on 18 September 2001.
The plant was 2.7 m (9 ft) tall and had 45 branches, all with heads. One branch even had 116 sunflower heads on it! Mr Hemker grew the sunflower plant completely naturally, without fertilizer at all.
