The Great Farini (William Leonard Hunt; 1838-1929) made the most crossings of Niagara by tightrope and during the 1860 season he crossed twice each week.
He sought to surpass the feats of Blondin who had made each each crossing in a different manner. Farini's stunts included carrying an Irish asherwoman, balancing himself on his head, hanging from the tightrope by his toes and carrying a washtub out on the tightrope, then lowering a bucket to the river below to retrieve the water in order to wash a dozen handkerchiefs. A tightrope walker is also know as a funambulist
