The royal antelope (Neotragus pygmaeus) of western Africa stands 25–31 cm (10–12 in) tall at the shoulder and weighs around 2.5 kilograms (5 pounds 8 ounces) on average – almost half the weight of a domestic cat.
At birth, the royal antelope is typically around 300–350 grams (10.5–12.3 ounces).
For authenticated weights, 3.5 kilograms (7 pounds 11 ounces) is the heaviest live-animal weight definitively recorded (Zoo record SDZ GAN 25213471: a 2.3-year-old male, who then lost weight to be ~2.5 kg throughout adulthood).
