Several species vie for the title of smallest rodent in the world. In particular, the northern pygmy mouse (Baiomys taylori) of Mexico, and Arizona and Texas, USA, and the Baluchistan pygmy jerboa (Salpingotus michaelis) of Pakistan, both have a head-body length of as little as 3.6 cm (1.4 in) and a tail length of 7.2 cm (2.8 in).
