The largest known marine gastropod is the trumpet or baler conch (Syrinx aruanus) of Australia. One specimen collected off Western Australia in 1979 and now owned by Don Pisor of San Diego, California has a shell 77.2 cm (30.4 in) long, with a maximum girth of 101 cm (39.75 in). It weighed nearly 18 kg (40 lb) when alive.
