The Grammy-winning soundtrack to the blockbuster movie The Bodyguard (USA, 1992), starring Whitney Houston (USA, 1963-2012) as music star Rachel Marron, is the best-selling movie soundtrack of all time with more than 44 million copies sold worldwide. The album, which has been certified for shipments of 17 million copies in the US alone, spent 20 non-consecutive weeks at No.1 between 12 December 1992 and 29 May 1993 and was the first album to register sales of more than one million copies in a week in the Nielsen SoundScan era (since May 1991) when it sold 1.06 million copies in its sixth week at No.1, on 16 January 1993.
