The overall belt system measures 51.16 km (31.8 mile) and is located between Mt Saddleback mine and Worsley refinery. It is used to transport 3,350 tonnes/hr (7.39 million lb/hr) of bauxite ore - from which aluminium is extracted - every hour, and travels at 24.8 km/h (15.4 mph). It was opened in 1983, and has 22 tunnels and 10 bridges along its length.
