The fastest climb of "The Naked Edge" – a 5.11b multi-pitch climbing route in Eldorado Canyon, Colorado – was achieved by John Ebers and Ben Wilbur (both USA) on 22 May 2020. They ascended from the bridge at the base of the canyon to the summit and back down to the bridge in 24 minutes 14 seconds.
"The Naked Edge" is regarded as one of the classic climbs of North America, alongside Yosemite's Half Dome and El Capitan, and has become a popular target for speed-climbers, with the record for the fastest ascent having changed hands 12 times since 2006, when it stood at 1 hour 22 minutes.
The accepted route for speed climbers doesn't just include the 500-ft (150-m) vertical ascent known as "The Naked Edge". Climbers start on a bridge at the base of the canyon, sprint to the rockface, free solo the 5.8-grade approach climb and then climb "The Naked Edge" free. Once at the summit, they descend via the "East Slabs" (a grade-4 climb in the Yosemite system) and then sprint back to the bridge.
